Why NUNIVIA rates additionally
Official labels (USK, PEGI) primarily refer to content such as violence or language. Purchase pressure, loot boxes, addictive mechanics and manipulative UI designs (dark patterns) have only been gradually included since 2023 — older ratings do not yet fully reflect this. NUNIVIA therefore additionally evaluates real everyday risks, including UI tricks such as countdown timers, virtual currencies, FOMO events and hidden decline options.

Discord is rolling out teen-default settings globally and requires age verification for certain content/spaces – a clear signal of high contact and content risks. Discord has been documented in grooming cases (DMs via server contacts). The new teen defaults are helpful but do not eliminate the underlying risk. Discord has been classified as a VLOP under the EU DSA since 2024 and published its first transparency report. The vzbv publicly criticised insufficient youth-protection defaults in 2024 and demanded mandatory settings for minors.
